Anti-Human Trafficking Act 12/2013 is enacted to combat trafficking and to prevent the victims of human trafficking.

The aim of this law is to stipulate crimes and punishment for human trafficking, to lay down legal framework to combat/prevent human trafficking and to set up mechanism for protection of victims of trafficking

Objective of the Act is to;

  • Criminalize human trafficking
  • Endeavour to prevent acts of trafficking committed in Maldives and through Maldives
  • Prescribe appropriate punishment for perpetrators
  • Conduct appropriate investigation against perpetrators and to establish strong guidelines for prosecutions
  • Provide protection and assistance for victims and potential victims, and to promote and protect human rights of victims
  • Work with organizations and associations (including international) in Maldives that work towards preventing trafficking
